The National Institute of Labour Studies (NILS) is Sri Lanka's premier institution dedicated to promoting labour education, research, and training. Established to advance the understanding of labour relations and social dialogue, NILS plays a key role in fostering collaboration between employers, employees, and the government. Through various educational programs and research initiatives, the institute aims to develop a more inclusive and equitable labour market in Sri Lanka.
As part of its commitment to the Global Deal partnership, NILS has pledged to create a pool of practitioners skilled in social dialogue. In 2023, NILS successfully launched a Diploma in Social Dialogue and Labour Relations with support from the Global Deal, ILO, ILO-ITC, the European Commission, and OECD. Building on this success, NILS has introduced a certificate course in Social Dialogue, offered in English, Sinhala, and Tamil. This 30-hour course will bring together employers, employees, and government representatives to strengthen social dialogue in the country.
"We are proud to partner with the Global Deal to promote social dialogue in Sri Lanka. Through these programs, we aim to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to foster more harmonious labour relations."
"We are delighted to welcome NILS as a partner in the Global Deal. Their commitment to advancing social dialogue aligns perfectly with our mission to promote fair and inclusive labour markets worldwide."
