By invitation of the French Minister of Labour, Ms Muriel Pénicaud, a wide array of French businesses and trade unions attended the meeting. The aim was to unite for enhanced social dialogue and collaboration on inclusive growth in France, and by the end of the meeting 14 companies and four trade unions declared their support for the Global Deal partnership.

The companies that joined are: Air France, BNP Paribas, Carrefour, Crédit Agricole, Danone, Groupe PSA, L’Oreal, Michelin, Saint-Gobain, Schneider Electric, Société Générale, Solvay, Total and VINCI.

The trade unions that joined are: French Confederation of Management – General Confederation of Executives (CFE-CGC), French Democratic Confederation of Labour (CFDT), General Confederation of Labour – Workers’ Force France (FO) and The French Confederation of Christian Workers (CFTC).

The participants also got a special message from the Swedish Prime Minister Mr. Stefan Löfven, whom wished them a successful meeting and welcomed them to the partnership. It was the Prime Minister, along with the ILO and the OECD, that initiated the Global Deal in 2016.

During the meeting, Ms Pénicaud also launched a national platform for the Global Deal partnership. The platform will monitor innovative practices of social dialogue and facilitate experience sharing between partners. View an information folder in French here.

"The way France adopts the Global Deal and adapt it to their own national context is a true inspiration. We welcome all French stakeholders to the Global Deal and look forward to future collaboration in making globalisation work for all", said the Ambassador and Coordinator for the Global Deal Ms Sofia Östmark who also attended the meeting.

The French engagement to the partnership was announced by President Emmanuel Macron at the Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 17 November 2017.

"I think the Global Deal is exactly what we need for our societies and our economies", said President Macron.
