Fairwork joins the Global Deal partnership
The Global Deal is delighted to welcome Fairwork as the newest member of the partnership. This collaboration represents an important milestone in our shared mission to advance decent work, fair labour standards, and inclusive economic growth across global supply chains. By combining Fairwork’s in-depth expertise in evaluating workplace practices along platform economy and artificial intelligence with the Global Deal’s mission to foster meaningful social dialogue, this partnership aims to tackle pressing challenges in sectors where workers’ rights are often under threat.
Fairwork commitment
With its extensive experience in championing fairness within the digital economy, Fairwork brings valuable insights and practical tools to this vital effort. As part of this collaboration, Fairwork will focus on:
1. Strengthening labour standards: Helping organisations improve their supply chains by adopting fair labour practices, including certification using its well-regarded scoring methodology.
2. Fostering collaboration: Promoting open and productive conversations between workers, employers, and policymakers to find practical ways to improve working conditions.
3. Supporting regulatory compliance: Assisting companies in meeting the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) through risk assessments, remediation plans, and clear, transparent reporting.
Addressing emerging challenges
The need for stronger worker protection has never been more pressing. With the adoption of the CS3D in May 2024, global supply chains are at a crossroads, with companies now required to uphold human rights and labour standards throughout. However, a field such as artificial intelligence (AI) presents unique challenges: developing AI systems often relies on distributed and hard-to-access labour resources, especially in data enrichment and business process outsourcing (BPO). In such environments, labour law violations often go unnoticed due to a lack of transparency and weak regulation.
By offering unbiased assessments of labour practices, Fairwork ensures that organisations can identify and address issues while promoting fair and sustainable practices across their supply chains.
A Partnership for fairer workplaces
From guiding companies towards fair-labour certifications to fostering meaningful social dialogue to create lasting change, Fairwork expertise will significantly strengthen the Global Deal work across diverse sectors and regions for decent work and inclusive growth.
