WBA's benchmarking on just transition

The case study provides a benchmark assessment of the incorporation of social dialogue and wider just transition principles at the company level. Conducted by the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), this assessment describes the methodology, presents valuable insights from the evaluations, and highlights good practices that have been observed in prominent companies.

By benchmarking companies through these methodologies, WBA has identified different areas of progress. For instance, about 30% of companies have some social dialogue processes in place such as collective bargaining. However, less than 1% of the 320 companies benchmarked in the decarbonisation and energy transformation are fully integrating it, which suggests that they may be operating across jurisdictions that lack just transition mechanisms.

WBA’s benchmarking can also be used to identify corporate good practices. For instance, the Global Deal partner ENGIE, includes consultation practices that enable employee representatives to influence decisions at each stage of the Group’s reorganisation.

Investors, policymakers, and social partners can also leverage the benchmarking results to formulate policy interventions. For instance, governments can incorporate just transition considerations into public procurement, thereby reinforcing established social dialogue and tripartite mechanisms.
