Hand over of The Global Deal

 

On 9 November 2018, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven met Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), to formally hand over the Global Deal partnership.

 

Initiated by Mr Löfven in 2016, the ‘Global Deal for Decent Work and Inclusive Growth’ is a multi-stakeholder partnership for social dialogue and better conditions in the global labour market. The initiative is about the advantages and gains of globalisation benefiting more people and jointly addressing the challenges in the global labour market. The initiative aims to promote better wages, better working conditions, increased gender equality and more equality for workers around the world. Social dialogue is a central element, which has so successfully helped Scandinavia, for example, to build trust and robust societies.

 

In just a few years, the initiative have grown to include about 100 actors from the whole world: governments, companies trade unions and organisations. The OECD and the International Labour Organisation (ILO)  are both founding partners of the initiative. Together, they will drive the work of the Global Deal forward, with the OECD as the host organisation for the support unit.

 

The new support unit will comprise six people, including two from the ILO. The support unit will focus on providing support to Global Deal partners, strengthening the partnership further and sharing knowledge about social dialogue and sound industrial relations.
