News Release: Launch of Human Rights Due Diligence Tool to protect the human rights of seafarers

Global Deal partners the UN Global Compact, the International Labour Organization (ILO), together with the UN Human Rights Office, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have today launched a new due diligence tool that aims to help businesses uphold their responsibility to protect the rights of seafarers who are stranded on ships due to new COVID-19 variants and government-imposed travel restrictions.

The Human Rights Due Diligence Tool for cargo owners and charterers, provides guidance to help ensure that the working conditions and human rights of seafarers, such as physical and mental health, access to family life and freedom of movement, are respected and comply with international standards.
